the secret room...
Congratulations - you found the secret area...
old esoteria, sketches and do-dads not easily found
for Liz, on her Diamond Jubilee
Even though I find the monarchy to be distasteful, it's still very weird that the Queen is dead.
Some medusa action...
Sketch for a Z-brush bust project.

Jean and Andy
Two of my favorite artists are Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquait. I did this doodle for my long-gone blog.
Shrine
For my 2014 Chaos, Decadence and Damnation show, I tried to turn the entire gallery into an experience - including adding some installation flare. The florist Sweet Pea's on Roncesvalles decorated a log I had found to look like my sketches for me.
Chaos, Decadence and Damnation: Push, Pull, 2008
There used to be a group in Toronto called the Octopus Project, and they would stage open call art shows in Toronto's Distillery District. Push, Pull was a theme for one of those shows, and this is what I came up with.

Princesses of Suburbia, 2007
This was my original Princess painting. Growing up in the suburbs, I had the typical grim view that a gen-x young adult would have about the suburbs - Sofia Coppola's Virgin Suicides had an enormous impact on me creatively when it was first released.
As time has gone by, I realize that you can't really escape the suburban malaise - even in the city. Southern Ontario is like a giant, sprawling suburb - touched by the mono-culture that is so often reviled by the self-proclaimed intelligentsia.
Nude cherubs, the New World Order, and shades of the occult were major motifs in my work at that time.

The Princesses of Suburbia, 2009
This is a sketch for a painting that never will be completed. I wanted to return to the Princess theme, and continue to do updated art around the subject. The Princess playing video games was eventually used for a piece I haven't yet shown.
Part of my process involves scanning drawings into Photoshop, and moving the elements around to get the composition I want. I can resize the work as well - finding the exact right feeling size for a piece. Some paintings are really collaged, like this one - the Mary stature was lifted from the original piece.

Magnified Lyle
Magnified Lyle is a really old illustration project I did for the Canadian composer Friendly Rich.
It was a book with a CD that you could listen to while you read it, read by Bill Exley of the Nihilist Spasm Band.
There was a match taped to the inside of each book, so you could burn it at your leisure.
