In 2015 I took a digital matte painting class that revealed I really didn't like digital matte painting at all. I had had experience with collage based background art, and I thought that this might be a direction that I could move in. However, I wasn't keen on having to source the photographs - I found it very restricting, and awfully boring. I did like this image though - it felt like it illustrated my frame of mind at the time. I was feeling stuck in a sort of artist's purgatory, and I was struggling to stay positive despite my lack of concrete direction at the time. The instructor wanted us to title everything, so I called this Middle of Somewhere.
